When Pigs Fly

We had an exciting event take place in our home this past weekend.  It had nothing to do with adoption, however, I’ve been trying to figure out how to create some sort of link between this story and our adoption so I could post it on our blog.

I haven’t been able to come up with anything.

I’m going to tell the story anyway.

About a month ago, Micah asked James if he could eat marshmallows for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

James laughed and said, “When pigs fly!”

Then James and Micah had a long discussion about how it is physically impossible for pigs to fly and when someone says, “when pigs fly”, they are really saying “NO!”

(One thing you should know about Micah: he NEVER accepts NO for an answer.)

Next thing we knew, Micah had written a letter to President Obama.  In this letter he created a whole diagram telling the government exactly how to create flying pigs.  It’s quite simple really… all you need to do is inject a pig with bird DNA and voila!  You have flying pigs.

He placed the diagram and letter in an envelope, addressed it to the White House, stuck a stamp on it and threw it in the mailbox.  (Unfortunately, this all happened before I could get a copy of his diagram and letter… sad!)

We completely forgot about this letter until this past Friday when we received a large manila envelope in the mail from THE WHITE HOUSE.

Sadly, there was no mention of flying pigs in the letter from Obama.

But… Micah was thrilled that he received a letter and a picture of the White House, the President and (most importantly), Bo Obama (the family dog).

How would you tie this story into our adoption and our need for donations?  I’d love to read your ideas/comments below…

  1. Wow that is so cool. What did it say in the letter? Micah is such a funny kid. I miss your family. I really hope that the fundraising is going good I'll be praying and fasting for you guys.

  2. It was a standard letter about educating yourself and working hard to reach your goals. Nothing too profound (albeit important encouragement). Thank you so much Charity! I love and miss you too!

  3. I think the "tie in" is that Micah doesn't ever take NO for an answer and therefore you will meet your goal of bringing your three other children to your family! Your family is not taking NO for an answer regarding Albina, Alina and Maks. He learned anything is possible from you Shelly! :). I've been following your blog and we will be praying and fasting for ALL your family!

  4. Shannon, I love this idea and appreciate your kind words. However, I do think that perhaps you give me too much credit. Thank you so much for praying and fasting for our family. Lots of love to you and your family!
